— The Road to the Project —

■ The Boat Hiro Sails

For this challenge, Hiro has chosen a solid and reliable small yacht, the 28-foot Bristol Channel Cutter .
Based on a classic design proven in long-distance solo sailing, the boat will be upgraded with modern technology and safety equipment.

  • ・Sufficient durability for long-term ocean voyages
  • ・Ideal size and balance for solo sailing

■ Schedule

The yacht is currently moored at Harbor Island West Marina, San Diego.
Preparations and training will proceed according to the roadmap below.

  • – March 2026 Preparation Phase (Equipment Installation & Testing)

    • ・Solar power generation system
    • ・Hydro-generation equipment, etc.
    * Construction work is currently significantly delayed, and we are seeking volunteers in San Diego to help with the project.

  • April 2026 – Training Phase (Sea Trials & Practical Testing)

    Key Training Focus

    • ・Familiarization with the vessel and handling
    • ・Solo sailing training guided by audio information
    • ・Monitoring and managing power generation and consumption
    • ・Coordination training with the onshore support center

    Through repeated shakedown tests, we will refine the readiness of the boat, the sailor, and the support system.

  • February 2027 Target Departure (San Diego)

    Following this roadmap, Hiro will continue preparing for the Pacific crossing.
